Terms & Conditions
1. Registration, Fees, and Cancellation Policy
This section details the financial agreement and the commitment expected from the student/parent.
- Payment Structure: Class payments must be paid in advance. Fees are fixed and generally not dependent on attendance, securing a place for the entire term.
- Refunds and Credits: A strict "no refunds" policy is standard for missed classes due to sickness, holidays, or minor injuries.
- Exceptions: The Principal may offer pro-rata refunds or credits at their discretion for long-term illnesses or severe injuries, but this is not guaranteed.
- Catch-up classes: Étoile performing arts allow students to attend another class of a similar level as a "catch-up" for a missed session, subject to class availability.
- Force Majeure: Clauses explicitly state that refunds are not provided if classes are cancelled due to circumstances beyond the school's control (e.g., extreme weather, fire, or government-mandated shutdowns).
- Withdrawal/Notice Period: To discontinue classes, a formal written notice of 4 weeks is typically required. Failure to provide adequate notice often means the next term's fees are still payable.
2. Health, Safety, and Liability
These clauses outline the physical risks involved in dance and the protective measures and responsibilities of both the school and the parent/guardian.
- Assumption of Risk: Parents and students acknowledge that dance is a physically strenuous activity and participation is voluntary. They accept the inherent risk of personal injury, releasing the school from responsibility except in cases of proven negligence by the teacher.
- Medical Disclosure and Consent:
- Parents are required to provide a full medical history, including any allergies or existing injuries, during registration and update the school on any changes.
- Terms often include consent for teachers to administer basic first aid and, in emergencies where a parent cannot be reached, to seek appropriate medical treatment (e.g., calling an ambulance).
- Physical Contact: It is standard for terms to mention that teachers may use appropriate physical contact to correct alignment and technique in a professional and safe manner.
- Premises and Supervision:
- The school's duty of care usually applies only during the registered class time.
- Parents are responsible for their child's safety in communal areas (changing rooms, waiting areas) and for prompt drop-off and collection.
- Personal Property: The school explicitly states it does not accept responsibility for the loss or damage of personal belongings or property left on the premises.
3. Student Code of Conduct and Dress Code
These rules ensure a disciplined and professional environment conducive to learning and safety.
- Behaviour: Students are expected to show respect to all staff and peers, listen to instructions, and refrain from bullying, gossiping, or using inappropriate language.
- Punctuality: Students must arrive on time to ensure they are adequately warmed up and to prevent class disruption. Latecomers may be asked to sit out for a period.
- Dress Code: Specific, fitted dance attire and appropriate footwear are mandatory so instructors can effectively assess technique and alignment, which helps prevent injury. The dance school uniform must be worn.
- Jewellery/Phones: For safety reasons and to minimise distractions, all jewellery must be removed, and mobile phones must be switched off/silenced and stored during class.
4. Data Protection and Media Consent
Schools must comply with data protection laws (like the UK GDPR) and require specific consent for marketing and communication.
- Media Consent: The terms will seek permission to take photographs or videos of students during class or performances for use in the school's marketing materials (websites, social media, brochures). Parents are always given the option to opt out of this.
- Parent/Guardian Filming: Parents are typically forbidden from taking photos or videos during class without explicit teacher consent.
- Data Usage: The school will outline how it uses the provided personal data (emergency contacts, medical info) to manage classes and communicate with parents.
